MapCheck ("MapCheck," "we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and related services (collectively, the "Service").

By using MapCheck, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use our Service.

2.1 Information You Provide

• Account Information: Email address (a verified supported-school address is required for Campus play), display name, profile photo
• Allegiance Information: University, Greek organization, clubs, and teams you select
• User Content: Any content you submit, such as profile information

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

• Location Data: GPS coordinates when you check in at venues (only when app is in use)
• Device Information: Device type, operating system, unique device identifiers
• Usage Data: Features used, time spent, check-in history
• Log Data: IP address, browser type, pages visited, timestamps

2.3 Information from Third Parties

• Authentication Providers: If you sign in via third-party services
• Analytics Services: Aggregated usage statistics

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, maintain, and improve our Service
• Verify your university affiliation
• Process check-ins and calculate territory control
• Display leaderboards and allegiance rankings
• Send push notifications about territory changes and rewards
• Provide customer support
• Analyze usage patterns to improve the app
• Detect and prevent fraud or abuse
• Comply with legal obligations

4.1 With Other Users

Your display name, allegiances, and check-in activity are visible to other MapCheck users. Your exact location is never shared — only which venue you checked into.

4.2 With Partner Venues

We share aggregated, anonymized data with partner venues, including:

• Total plant counts at the place
• Banner breakdown (share of plants by banner)
• Peak plant hours, from plant times

We do NOT share individual user data with venues.

4.3 With Service Providers

We may share information with third-party service providers who perform services on our behalf, including hosting, analytics, and customer support.

4.4 For Legal Reasons

We may disclose information if required by law or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.

4.5 We Do NOT Sell Your Data

MapCheck does not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for their marketing purposes.

Location data is central to MapCheck's functionality. Here's how we handle it:

• When Collected: Only when you actively check in at a venue
• How Used: To verify you are at the venue (within 100 meters)
• What's Stored: The venue ID and timestamp — not your exact coordinates
• Background Location: We do NOT track your location in the background

You can deny location permission, but you won't be able to check in at venues.

• Account Data: Retained until you delete your account
• Check-in History: Retained for 2 years, then anonymized
• Analytics Data: Retained for 1 year

When you delete your account, we delete your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

• Access: Request a copy of your personal data
• Correction: Request correction of inaccurate data
• Deletion: Request deletion of your account and data
• Portability: Request your data in a portable format
• Opt-out: Opt out of marketing communications

MapCheck is not intended for users under 17 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

Your continued use of MapCheck after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
